Ogunquit Police Chief John Licanecz and Deputy Chief Ashley Wade (photo below) visited with us to tell us about the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.

In connection with the Four-Way Test, I spoke briefly about meeting a Rotarian from California on a river cruise in the Netherlands.
Members had many reasons to be happy. Ray officially retired from his job with the Town of Ogunquit. Dr. Joe recalled when former police chief Bill Hancock’s daughter was the first women to become a member of the Ogunquit Rotary. Joe is happy that women make Rotary a better organization. Connie lauded Erin Haye for all she does. Elizabeth Cutler also just retired. Carol, Connie, Erin, Jyoti and Tina are signed up to help in Saturday’s Lobster Bite Challenge. Alice can use a few more volunteers as well. Pete offered a CLYNK update.

Ray had the winning ticket. The first card he drew was the ace of hearts! Nice little retirement prize!
After the meal, Chief Licanecz and Deputy Chief Ward shared stories of their many years of participation in various fundraising events to benefit Special Olympics. They each spoke of being inspired countless times by the joy the athletes experience in the competitions. Ms. Wade focused on a sentiment that is the essence of Special Olympics, “Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.”
The board meets next Thursday at 5:00 at The Dunaway Center.
