We were joyful to be back at Jonathan’s!

 

Twenty members welcomed six guests today: Jim Anliot, who submitted an application for membership; Heather Gagnon from Ogunquit Playhouse, who also sent in an application; Jen Hayes, executive assistant to Matt Buttrick; Pierce Cole, WOCSD director of instruction; Rita Sevigny, director of WOCAM; and Dave Trondle, also representing WOCAM.  

 

Heath greeted us and happily noted the April birthdays of his mother, his best friend, himself, and Paul Harris, the founder of Rotary!

 

After the Pledge of Allegiance, I focused on the third question in the Four-Way Test, “Will it build goodwill and better friendships?” “On any given day, you may be fortunate to meet a friend. And, if you are fortunate, you meet or learn of someone of good will. But, attend a Rotary meeting or Rotary event and you will be certain to meet a friend and a person of good will. That is Rotary.” 

 

In her message of gratitude, Susan offered the words of Erma Bombeck who said, “When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left and I could say, ‘I used everything you gave me.’”

 

Larry is headed to the Music Hall in Portsmouth to see Million Dollar Baby. Ray assured him it is a great show! Jen welcomed Tyler back from his vacation in Europe. Pete and Richard were pleased to be back at Jonathan’s. Richard commented that “it was good to see a nice group for a change!” (We know what you meant, Richard.😀) Elizabeth looks forward to her brother’s return for the season. Melanie welcomed Hannah and Jim. Jim said he hopes his application will be approved. Eric’s daughter celebrated a birthday. Having been described as being dressed like a redneck, Heath explained that he’s been preparing for a yard sale this weekend at The Inn at Shore Road. Dave Tromble thanked Matt and Jen for their help in preparing a presentation. Erin had a great ten days in Aruba. Brenda was ebullient as she recently representing Rotary International at the Duke-UNC Peace Scholar Center. Both Steve and I are very happy about the UConn men’s basketball team’s 5^th national championship! Susan is headed to Arizona to visit her sister. Alice is happy about the move of the Chamber of Commerce to 102 Main Street. John is back from San Diego and the pottery shop now is open.

 

And Pete updated us, “We have MARCH-ed into APRIL (it happens each year), And now we MAY look to JUNE to appear. And when nobody’s lookin’ we’ll be in JULY, Two Cent Sale our event – oh my, and oh my!” The CLYNK account is at $547.95.

 

In the 50/50 raffle, Tyler drew the 3 of diamonds and the 10 of hearts. Better luck next time!

 

In the Foundation Auction, Brenda prevailed with a bid of $80 to take home the gift card for Sassy Olive. Susan, as runner-up with a bid of $75, walked off with the Harbor Candy gift card.

Heath awarded Erin a Paul Harris + 2 pin. Erin had been twice awarded by the club for her good work. This award is the result of Erin’s direct contributions to The Rotary Foundation. She explained that she contributes regularly via payroll deduction. 

 

Rita and Dave thanked us for this year’s Day of Warming and elaborated on various activities and developments at the senior center.

April 15: District 7780 Training Assembly at Westbrook High School (the club will cover the registration fee.)

Mid to late June: Presidential Changeover (John and Erin are leading the planning)
