Jason Corbin, Vice Chair of the Ogunquit Parks and Recreation Department, joined in on the Zoom to talk about Covid-19’s impact on previously planned activities and what lies ahead.
On the happy-dollar front, Kerry Ellen was happy to see everyone and to report that Bill Gates, appearing on Anderson Cooper’s TV program recently, gave much credit to Rotary International. Pete reported $369.55 in Clynk funds. Erin was happy that Dr. Joe’s check to the club eventually reached P.O. 2338 after straying to someone else’s mailbox. (That person honorably rectified the situation!)
Mr. Corbin described the growth of the Parks and Rec committee and the big plans for last summer that did not materialize due to Covid. Not all was lost as Music in the Park was very successful. In fact, a live streaming feed facilitated by the Ogunquit Police Department reached over 4,000 people! The committee is hoping to present a virtual Christmas caroling event. Corbin also mentioned that Ogunquit-03907 is focused on highlighting art in Perkins Cove. He closed by giving some history on Ogunquit Spirit of Giving and the tie to Adoptive Foster Families of Maine. Elizabeth Ford added that the Parks and Rec rock-painting event was a fun time. Bob Cruikshank talked about the pickleball training he and Cheryl provided to some 5th, 6th and 7th graders, also through Parks and Rec.
In accord with Giving Tuesday, December 1st this year, members are encouraged to contribute food and grocery items to St. Mary’s food pantry. Elizabeth Ford has a list. Susan will set up a collection box at the Chamber of Commerce lobby. Also, Susan placed a card at the Chamber for members to sign to thank Lisa Aubin for her years of service to Ogunquit Rotary. As is our custom, our club will donate $250 to Ogunquit Spirit of Giving to provide Christmas gifts to 5 children. Kerry Ellen is coordinating that donation with Erin.
Pete volunteered to take down the flags at Rotary Park for the winter. Ed Smith volunteered the Ogunquit Fire Department to locate a Christmas tree and to arrange with Ogunquit Public Works to install it at Rotary Park.
Erin reported sales totaling $1,800 in the 2 Cents Sale Raffle. Members are reminded that we each should buy or promote the purchase of 25 tickets. The drawing of the winners will be in three weeks… everyone please SHARE, LIKE and COMMENT the raffle posts on Ogunquit Rotary’s Facebook page!
