Wait, what? You missed the meeting? In the 1950s and 60s, the tv show What’s My Line would feature a mystery guest. Panelists asked questions to try to figure out who the mystery guest was. See if you can figure out who gave the member-talk at our meeting on Thursday. This “mystery guest” took piano lessons as a kid and, once, Einstein stopped by in his bathrobe with a violin. As a young boy living in New Orleans, he was part of a church group that visited Bourbon St where he and his friends enjoyed seeing naked ladies! In the Peace Corps after college in Ohio, he was widely thought by the Colombian villagers to be a member of the Kennedy clan. He feels an indirect responsibility for much of the political upheaval in the world. After his stays in Colombia, Chile, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Venezuela, the leadership in those areas turned authoritarian! Do you know who this is? Tracy asked us to mark July 19 and 20 on our calendars. On the 19^th, we’ll set up for the 2 Cent Sale in The Dunaway Center and the evening of the 20^th is the big event. Now’s the time to visit local businesses in the quest for donations of merchandise and gift cards. Start giving thought to the composition of your gift basket.

 

We had two visitors - Ann Schieber, of the Durham-Great Bay Rotary Club, and Barbara Leazes, a member of the Sanibel-Captiva Rotary Club. Barbara, who resides in Ogunquit in the summer, gifted us a banner from her club. Later, Heath gave her one of our banners.

 

Richard was very happy that the room was almost full. Tracy is sporting her first truly new car, a Subaru Forester. Ray is heading to Cincinnati to visit his daughter and granddaughter. Erin leaves Tuesday for Spain to visit daughter Lexi. Heath will take a couple of days off in Boothbay once his newest property is officially opened. Brenda is grateful for Heath’s superb leadership of the club. She leaves Monday for the Rotary International Convention in Melbourne. Pleased that Vickie is officially an honorary member of our club, Dr. Joe noted that they are headed to Virginia for the graduations of two grandchildren. Rick reported that the AIDS walk netted $127,000. Larry will meet up with former co-workers in Boston. Elizabeth Ford distributed stars to call attention to the Stars for Troops program and the significance of the upcoming Memorial Day holiday. Pete weighed in…

Ed Smith auctioned off 5 lbs of rhubarb for The Rotary Foundation. Matt took it home for $15. Brenda auctioned off some items from Tobin James Cellars in Paso Robles, California, her former home area: a 2018 Malbec, a beach wine bottle and cookies. Rick gathered up the goodies with a $100 bid. Thank you, Ed, Brenda, Matt and Rick!

 

 Matt mentioned that Ogunquit’s Memorial Day parade kicks off at 10 am. The parade marshal will be the mother of a fallen U.S Special Forces soldier.
