The Rotary Club of
Ogunquit

Meeting recap of Thursday, October 20, 2022
Heath opened the meeting with the pledge of allegiance. Then Dr. Joe spoke briefly about an arrogantly irresponsible student from Joe’s days teaching English. The focus was on the 4-Way Test question, “Is it fair to all concerned?” Susan provided our message of gratitude.

District Governor Claudia Frost visited with us today. Other guests were assistant governor Maryna Shuliakouskaya, Eric Nixon of Bangor Bank, and Larry Carlson who visited with us on October 6.

Heath introduced Governor Claudia mentioning places she has lived and worked as a music educator and choir conductor. Claudia provided insight into the design elements the 2022-23 Rotary logo, “Imagine Rotary.” She highlighted our club’s goals and commended our service projects. Claudia underscored the importance of  Rotary’s Polio Plus campaign. She urged us to support RYLA, to participate in the District Training Assembly on April 15, and to join in the June 10 District Celebration.

You will recall that Rotarians around the world responded to the war in Ukraine by donating to Rotary International’s Disaster Relief Fund. Today, Brenda explained that Rotary International rapidly approved a $25,000 district grant submitted by the Saco Bay Sunset Rotary club. The grant helps support a shelter housing mothers and children who have lost husbands and fathers in Ukraine. Club members wore red today to call attention to World Polio Day on October 24. District 7780 lists the ways you can be part of the effort to eradicate polio worldwide, https://rotary7780.org

Pete’s latest… At CLYNK it’s two ninety-six fifteen,
That’s more now than we’ve lately seen,
The more bags, the more change it will fetch ya,
That’s the way to go, uh-huh; you betcha!

Things folks were happy about… Dr. Joe’s Norwegian family visited recently; Pete and Brenda thanked Claudia for joining us; Heath thanked Pete for delivering pizza and Erin and Tracy for their Ogunquitfest efforts; Brenda met RI President Jennifer Jones in Chicago; Tracy has plans for fun with her parents in Concord; Melanie will vacation soon; Susan’s cat did NOT soil her friend’s shoes!

Brenda drew the 5 of hearts and the 6 of clubs. Wah, wah, wah.

Rick Barber donated 3 of his spectacular calendars to the Polio auction. George, Matt and Claudia each bid $20!

Consider joining Erin and Brenda on November 4 at the District 7780 Foundation Celebration. https://rotary7780.myeventscenter.com/event/One-In-A-Million-Rotary-Foundation-Celebration-68017
