Hannah Gagnon, marketing associate at Ogunquit Playhouse, was our guest on Thursday. Tyler McOsker and Steve Wilkos were officially inducted as members. In his message of gratitude, Matt reminded us to look beyond our everyday problems to appreciate our community, friendships, and sense of security in contrast to people elsewhere suffering in wartime and natural disasters.
With a sad dollar, Ed Smith remembered Richard “Dick” Bibber who passed away on March 8. Tracy and Matt both noted the recent passing of Jordan Freeman and Jeanne Roche.
On happier notes, Tyler, his wife, and friends will vacation in Spain. Kerry is prepared to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Susan deposited some cash having arrived late. Ray is pleased that Ogunquit Playhouse may again be a corporate member of Ogunquit Rotary. Brenda thanked all who have contributed to Rotary International’s Turkey/Syria Disaster Relief. Tracy and Pete contributed at this meeting. Dr. Joe, who is starting his 47th year in Rotary, received a nice phone call from Jim Daly who promises to attend meetings as his schedule allows. President-elect Alice displayed next year’s Rotary banner, “Create Hope in the World”, which she was given at PETS last weekend. Alice also brought an American flag from the Wells-Ogunquit Historical Society to give to Elizabeth and Pete for the Stars for Troops program. Heath recently acquired his fifth inn in Ogunquit.
Pete drew the 2 of spades and the 2 of hearts. The 50/50 pot grows!
In club news, Brenda reported that the Rotary Foundation awarded our club a free Paul Harris Fellow award for our generosity this year. According to Tracy, Joan Gordon, widow of Rotarian Richard Gordon, gave $100 to this years 2 Cents Sale. Further, “That Place in Ogunquit” contributed $1,000 to last year’s Kite Festival and another $1,000 to this year’s event! Our March food drive to benefit St. Mary’s Ecumenical Food Pantry is extended through April 6, our first meeting back at Jonathan’s. Susan is organizing a movie night next Wednesday, March 22.
For the RI Foundation annual fund, Tracy auctioned off a $50 “That Place” gift certificate and a “priceless” jar of homemade grape jelly. Tyler won with a bid of $60.
Russ explained that the board recently recommended a $500 donation to Rett’s Roost. Dr. Joe moved for club approval; Susan seconded. The motion passed unanimously.

In his member talk, Rick Barber spoke of his Connecticut roots, his education and professional starts and stops, his eventual settling into real estate work, his Parkinson’s diagnosis, Moon Over Maine, his husband Mark, and the decision to live in Ogunquit rather than Provincetown. Rick, thanks very much for the amusing and entertaining presentation.
Heath announced that the board will continue to meet at the Dunaway Center. The next meeting will be at 5:00 on Thursday, April 13. Members are invited to the meeting and pizza social afterward.
