Three guests attended lunch today. Carole Aaron, who may be interested in joining; Maddie Polk, today’s speaker; and Mary Anne Rush, chair of Ogunquit’s Facilities and Space Needs Committee.

 

Reflecting on the Rotary theme of Create Hope in the World, Alice focused on the hope we see in a morning’s sunrise and a blooming flower. Steve offered some good thoughts in a moment of gratitude. Dr. Joe spoke of the Biddeford-Saco club’s hosting of a movie night for immigrant’s currently housed in a Portland hotel. The goodwill gesture affirms all aspects of the 4-Way Test.

 

Sergeant at Arms Matt Buttrick did some meeting-assignment recruiting and raised some serious cash in happy dollars! Ed Smith was thankful for the Ogunquit Fire Company and his pacemaker. Richard noted it had not rained in 24 hours! Alice and her daughter enjoyed a Bruce Springsteen concert for the umpteenth time. Alice also attended her stepson’s wedding. Dr. Joe shared good news of his granddaughter’s exchange year abroad in Paraguay. Melanie is happy for September. Hannah is happy the playhouse begins its last show of the season this weekend. Erin was happy to see Melanie and Carole Aaron. Susan recently enjoyed the ice cream and merchandise at Melanie’s store. Steve bemoaned a recent rainy night at Fenway. Jen was happy to see Rick. Rick was happy that storm Lee wandered east. Ray’s wife Kay had successful cataract surgery. Pete reported $635.65 in CLYNK cash!

Mary Anne Rush drew the 6 of diamonds and the 4 of hearts. The 50/50 pot now exceeds $221.

 

Hannah auctioned off two tickets to Tootsie at the playhouse for the Rotary Foundation. Erin and Rick battled fiercely; Rick prevailed with an offer of $162.50. Thanks Rick!

 

As a participant in the Legends program, Larry introduced Maddie Polk of Crossfit Harpoon fitness center in York. Referring to the spectrum from sickness through wellness to fitness, Maddie (photo below) focused on the objective “move properly, move well.” She also mentioned that Chief Russ has instituted a fitness program at the fire company with any eye toward injury-reduction.

 

In closing the meeting, Alice mentioned that the next board meeting will be upstairs at the firehouse at 5:00 on October 12. Members are welcome to attend. Pizza will be served after the meeting.
