We packed the house! 24 members and 6 visitors made for a spirited meeting. Marion Cheney and her husband Harry are Rotarians in Dover. Marion is the incoming district governor. Mark Duffy was Heath’s guest. Barbara Leazes, our summer visitor from the Sanibel-Captive club, joined in again. Kathleen Frederick of the Ipswich-Rowley Rotary club was in town on vacation and saw the Rotary flag as she was passing by Jonathan’s. Erinn Stearns of the York County Council of Realtors was on hand to receive a donation.
Barbara Leazes led us in the 4-Way Test and joyously added a fifth question: “Is it fun?”
Russ Osgood recalled being part of a medical mission to Guatemala to provide a touching message of gratitude.
Dollars flowed. Tyler congratulated Jen Bassett’s marriage two weeks ago. Jen is happy to be married and to be a new Rotarian. Russ’s old family barn is almost completely deconstructed. Kerry, Brenda and Larry heaped praise on Heath for his outstanding leadership of our club this year. Hear! hear! Dr. Joe and Vickie have returned from their trip to Virginia for the 8th grade and high school graduations of their granddaughters. Richard was delighted to point out that there had been no rain for the last few hours! Bob thanked Ogunquit Rotary for teaming up with Ogunquit Parks and Rec to sponsor the Pride event in Perkins Cove. Kathleen Frederick thanked us for the fabulous lunch. Erin welcomed Erinn! Rick thanked Matt for his 6 out of 10 score in the Ogunquit talent contest during Pride weekend. One quite sad note: Ed Smith recently said good bye to his 13 year-old labradoodle. Dr. Joe and others offered comfort.
Pete reported $603.20 in CLYNK funds.

Kerry donated 2 tickets to any Ogunquit Playhouse main-stage production (plus drink tix). At the end of intense bidding, Brenda took the goods home of $250. That money goes to the Rotary Foundation.
Heath and Matt presented Jen with her new Rotary club badge and membership packet, including the Rotary pin. Heath announced that the Stars of our Nation event resulted in a $1,500 donation to the National Medal of honor Museum Foundation. The board proposed donating an additional $500. Brenda and Matt put forth a motion to that effect. The motion passed without objection.
Heath presented Erinn Stearns with a check of $500 for the York County Council of Realtors for their fuel assistance fund.
Heath asked for a motion to approve our club’s 2023-24 budget. Following the motion by Dr. Joe and Brenda, the budget was approved unanimously. George Wilson and Russ Osgood endorse a joint effort of Ogunquit Rotary and the Ogunquit Fire Company to host some bingo evenings in August.
Brenda reported on her day at the district conference on Bailey Island on June 10 as well as her trip earlier in June to Melbourne for the Rotary Convention. The 2023-24 Rotary theme will be “Create Hope in the World.” Brenda encourages members to save their pennies to attend the Rotary Convention in Calgary two years from now.
Tracy noted revenue of $553 at our bread-and-baked-goods at BonAire! Erin reminded all that our changeover event will be at 5:00 p.m. at The Beachmere on Wednesday, June 28.
In his member talk, Steve Wilkos told of his West Hartford, Connecticut roots, his musical background, Holy Cross College, Air Force ROTC, aircraft pilot experience and several software engineering positions leading to IBM, his current employer. Steve recalled an amusing experience when his young nephew won a bottle of vodka at a 2 Cent Sale! Thanks for the presentation, Steve.
The board of directors will host a fireside chat for new members at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 13, at The Dunaway Community Center. Pizza will be served. A board meeting will follow.
