As part of our preliminary activities I offered thoughts on gratitude. I am grateful for the good work done by Rotarians around the world; I am grateful for the camaraderie we share as members of the Ogunquit Rotary club and I am grateful for the individual friendships we enjoy with other members of the club.
After a delicious lunch of butternut squash ravioli, roast chicken breast, salad and apple cobbler, Erin reviewed plans for the February 14th Day of Warming at the Wells-Ogunquit Center at Moody. For the Love of Food and Drink generously will donate the meatloaf lunch for the event. Thank you, Wendy! So far, ten members have signed up. Here’s the link to sign up.
In Happy Dollars, Carol and Pete love meeting for lunch at Saltwater Farm. Pete is encouraged in that the CLYNK operation at Hannaford seems to be alive and well.

Also in Happy Dollars, George spoke of having presented an overview of our club’s 2016 Colombia project to the Memory Unit at Riverwoods in Durham. At the conclusion of his presentation he realized most of the audience was asleep! (I wonder if there will be a quiz. 😀) George also mentioned that Brianna Castro, the former Peace Corps volunteer who instigated the project, is relocating to New England to teach at Yale. Perhaps she can venture our way for a visit! Ray was pleased to discover that his neighbor had shoveled his driveway. Melanie is leaving town ahead of the storm. Alice’s son will reside with her for a month before relocating to Sun Valley. Eileen is happy be be recovering from a nagging cold and for the Patriots’ chances in the NFL playoffs. Nancy’s lone granddaughter turned 2 recently. Erin and Rick are escaping to Brownville, Maine with friends for a weekend of frolicking and felicitous foolishness. Eric is relieved that the plans for him to assist his daughter in Rhode Island this weekend have been rescheduled. Rick’s husband Mark has done so well since his quadruple bypass that they were able to go out for dinner recently. Rick would like the club to resurrect “member talks”. (Carol has her reasons for preferring not to participate! 😀)

The speakers today were John Ernst and Dan Bedard. They are working with Roland Gagne of the Biddeford-Saco Rotary Club on a global grant to modernize the water supply in a village in Uganda. They learned of the problems of the water supply in that village from Father Dominic Tumuslimi, Parish priest of St. Anthony of Padua in Westbrook, Maine for the last ten years, who is from that village in Uganda. To date, they have pledges from almost half of the clubs in District 7780 ranging in amounts from $250 to $2,000. They are hoping to have sufficient financial backing by the end of February in order to finalize the global grant application. Our board will discuss a potential pledge by our club at the February 9th board meeting.
