The Rotary Club of
Ogunquit

Recap of Thursday, July 3, 2025
Members were in high spirits on this beautiful Fourth of July eve. (A brief storm would blow in as we were leaving!)

For the moment of gratitude, Susan read some thoughts by Buddhist philosopher/teacher Thich Nhat Hanh on the concept of the hugging meditation.
Susan also read a nice thank you note that we received from Chloe Madsen, a winner of the Larry Carlson scholarship.

In happy dollars, I thanked Rick, Susan and Eric for their willingness to lead this club in the 2025-26 Rotary year. I also noted that Joe Boyle was honored as the Rotarian of the Year in the Biddeford Saco Rotary Club where he is an honorary member. Ed Smith was happy to report that his wife is recovering nicely from a recent heart procedure. Several members expressed pleasure at seeing George in attendance today. Susan said she is excited about being secretary! George announced that he recently received $6000 from the state of Maine in unclaimed funds! Eric asked members to be patient as he learns the ropes as club treasurer. Heidi is pleased that a recent ankle injury does not involve a fracture. Rick thanked those who participated in last week’s Changeover. Tracy reported that her mother had a grand time at the Changeover. Pete was pleased to say,

“All our flags are flying at Rotary Park
all day long and into the dark.
So celebrate the 4th like never before
and remember what those CLYNK bags are for!”

George held the winning ticket but did not draw the ace of hearts. Better luck next time!

Rick received an e-mail from a Rotarian in a district in India. It reads

Dear President Rick Barber,
This is Suren Poruri, Volunteer - Global Grants,  RI District 3150, from India.
Your rotary club of Ogunquit was chartered on 30/06/1972, which is today. Your club completed 53 year’s service today in RI District 7780 in serving the communities across the world. I would like to extend my warm wishes to you and to all your club members on this joyous moment.

To celebrate our anniversary, Rick provided a tasty layer cake for dessert.

Rick welcomed Nancy Sferes as an official member of the Ogunquit Rotary Club.

Tracy distributed raffle tickets. She has more at the camera shop. Please email Heidi (hbecker53@me.com) listing each donation for the 2 Cent Sale, its value and the business donating the item. Please reply to Erin’s request to sign up for 2 Cent Sale tasks July 16th and 17th at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0448A9AF2FA64-57418560-2centsale#/

The board meets next Thursday at 5:00 at The Dunaway Center.
