Three people visited today – District Governor Bob MacKenzie, Assistant District Governor Pam Gray, and Angela Whitten, founder of Stay; for Life.
Pete led us in the recitation for the Four-Way Test. I spoke of being grateful for some words that Brenda Cressy had shared on Facebook. These words helped free me from a funk I’d experienced in recent days. “Life is short, live it. Love is rare, grab it. Anger is bad, dump it. Fear is awful, face it. Memories are sweet, cherish them.”
Tracy was happy about the good weather during Ogunquitfest. Heath had a good vacation in Florida. Connie was happy to be in attendance especially because there are so many more of us here today than last week when she also showed up for a club meeting none of us attended! Carol was feeling particularly good. I was happy to have recently enjoyed the new movie Lost on a Mountain in Maine. Dr. Joe’s and Vickie’s cat was not lost; it was hiding in the wardrobe. Ed Smith had a great time at the USS Forrestal reunion even though the airport connections were a little hairy. By the way, a woman from Indiana remembered him from her days working at The Lookout in Ogunquit in 1962! Pam Gray was glad the political ads have ceased. Alice will soon be on vacation in Greece. Pete shared the following,
“Now that it's Fall, we can set our clocks back
And enjoy that extra hour in the rack.
Then when you're up again, here's what to do:
Turn in those CLYNK bags, and...merci beaucoup!”
Current amount in our account (adjusted) . . $592.00 (about)
Angela Whitten had the key raffle ticket but selected the 2 of spades and the 5 of clubs.
Rick raffled off a Rick Barber calendar for the Foundation; Erin took it home for $20. Then Dr. Joe contributed a Biddeford Saco Rotary Club $100 raffle ticket. Carol, Tracy, Rick, and Connie bid $25 each.
This was Bob MacKenzie’s official visit to our club as district governor. His words focused on two topics of great importance to him – substance abuse recovery and mental health. Having been Chief of Police in Kennebunk for the last 12 years, his experience in public safety goes back to his teen years. Bob shared very moving personal thoughts about family members currently in recovery and the recent suicide of a Kennebunk Rotarian he knew well. Bob encouraged us to get involved in Rotary’s efforts to address substance abuse and Mental Health initiatives Rotary Action Group Rotary.
After his remarks, Bob presented President Rick with a certificate recognizing our club’s contributions to Rotary Foundation.
Angela spoke for a few minutes about the work that Stay; For Life does in the areas of suicide prevention and men’s mental health. Our club plans to support a Trent’s Tree in Rotary Park.
Tracy and Erin reported on progress toward our Annual Holiday Event at Jonathan’s on Thursday, December 5. Assistance is requested with mailing invitations to Ogunquit seniors.
Tyler reported good revenue from Ogunquitfest.
