Barbara “Babs” Leazes is back in Ogunquit for the summer blessing us with her inimitable warmth and cheeriness! 

 

For the moment of gratitude, Ed Smith expressed sincere thanks to Elizabeth Cutler for the delightful story in the May issue of the District 7780 Newsletter about the bunch of us who are “over 80.”

 

Tracy reported good progress on the renovations at the camera shop. Thursday was her parents 60^th wedding anniversary. Heidi is pleased with responses she has received to her email about the 2 Cents Sale. If you have not replied regarding which businesses you will contact, please do so. Elizabeth is basking in retirement glory! Dr. Joe and Vickie’s kayak dock was installed. A grandson will visit soon to help set up for the summer. Ed Smith’s wife will have a procedure to address a cardiac issue. Susan’s husband Tom is recovering from surgery at Mass General. She is very pleased with the good treatment he received. Barabara was happy to be back among us. Eric told of a long distance closing on a property in The Villages. Rick and family had a nice Mother’s Day brunch at Hobbs. Erin’s daughter Lexi is coming home for Erin’s birthday. She is beaming over having only one more treasurer’s report to produce for the board! Alice thanked several members who assisted with The Chamber’s Lobster Bite event. Alice enjoyed visits with her daughter and her son.

 

Pete had the winning ticket but did not draw the ace of hearts.

Ed Smith donated rhubarb for auction. (I’m not sure who won!) 

 

We will have our annual Changeover event at the Community Center at The Forest on Thursday, June 26. 

 

Rick oversaw voting on two contribution recommendations from the board. The club approved a $2000 donation to South Portland Cape Elizabeth’s district grant to provide a walk-in refrigerator for the York/Cumberland  County Food Bank. The club also approved $500 to Ogunquit PD’s support of Special Olympics. 

 

The club will match donations up to $100 to Rotary Foundation before June 30. Donors will be eligible for a drawing for two Ogunquit Playhouse tickets! 

 

Alice summarized the results of the service committee’s survey of the top categories of service for the club. The top three are supporting education, alleviating food insecurity, and engaging and supporting families and children.
