The Rotary Club of
Ogunquit

Meeting recap of Thursday, May 16, 2024
How often is it said that good friends are good for one’s health? No better example than this meeting of the Ogunquit Rotary Club highlighted by the return of Connie Griffin, Ann Lee Hussey and Barbara Leazes!

Alice shared Rev. Robert Schuler’s words “Let ‘hopes’ not ‘hurts’ shape the future.”

For the message of gratitude, Erin warmly observed that our Rotary club is more than just an organization; it’s a family. Each member brings their unique strengths, compassion, and dedication to service, creating a bond that transcends mere friendship. Let us continue to be a source of hope for those in need and contentment for those who feel lonely. May our actions always reflect love, kindness, and a gentle spirit. Together, we make a difference.

Dr. Joe focused on the question, “Does it build goodwill and better friendships?” He cited the Rotary Exchange Program, in which he took part, as a perfect example. You betcha!

Susan deposited eight quarters to say she is happy! Elizabeth Ford distributed Stars for our Troops in preparation for Memorial Day. Tyler recalled having given one of these stars to a friend who served in Afghanistan - it was meaningful. Dr. Joe forwarded a $100 donation from his Norwegian friend Ola Lånke. (You’ll recall that Mr. Lånke told us his club comprised a lot of stodgy old men.) Dr. Joe was happy that Connie is back. And his dock is getting a new rampway. Elizabeth Cutler noted the significant positive impact of women on our club while also opining that we “have no stodgy old men.” Jen’s husband will celebrate his 50th birthday. Eric’s daughter was married recently. Melanie was happy about the warm weather. Carole applauded Elizabeth Ford’s Stars for our Troops. Richard was thankful. Carol was happy to be with friends. Barbara is happily anticipating summer. Tracy reported that her mom has been very ill. New meds have resulted in some improvement and mom is again talking about going to the casino. Connie is happy to be back. Ann Lee also was happy to be with us again saying she missed us. She also commented on the essential nature of the polio vaccine. Brenda was happy to have Ann Lee. (FYI, Brenda transported Ann Lee and her wheelchair to and from the meeting.) Jim is retiring! He and his wife are celebrating their 44th anniversary! Alice had a visit with her daughter and her daughter’s future mother-in-law. Erin’s daughter will be home from Spain for a few days. Pete reported $1097.13 in the CLYNK  account,

“CLYNK has kept score on containers turned in
We’re over Fifty-Thousand now – can you believe it?
Jut a few cents for each, but they really add up,
Thanks one and all who have helped us achieve it!

Carole drew the 6 of clubs and the queen of clubs; no winnings today!

Reporting on Rotary Foundation, Brenda says we have donated over $7,500 this year. In its history, this club has given about $97,000 in total. She looks forward to us hitting the $100,000 total soon!

Steve provided a summary of the visioning project so for. He thanked Jen for documenting the results of the March effort. The following members have volunteered to serve on the “vision follow-up” committee: Jen, Elizabeth Ford, Brenda, Eric and Ann Lee.

Our Changeover is on Monday, June 17, at 4:00 at the clubhouse in The Forest (residential complex) in Wells. BYOB.

This year, the district conference features a day-trip to Star island on Isles of Shoals.
