The Rotary Club of
Ogunquit

Recap of Thursday September 19, 2024
Susan served as greeter today. Rick presided. Melanie led the Four Way Test; you betcha! Brenda dedicated today’s moment of gratitude to Dr. Joe for his generosity in championing and supporting the speaker-book program at Ogunquit Memorial Library. Sophie Cordery, OMAA Education and Community Outreach Fellow, visited with us again today and expressed interest in joining the club!

Heidi again volunteered to collect Happy Dollars. Alice enjoyed her Block Island vacation… Eileen enjoyed Little Shop of Horrors… Tracy thanked all for another successful Kite Festival… Brenda has mostly recovered from an injury she suffered while on a vacation trip in Amsterdam… Ed Smith also is recovering from a fall he took at home… Dr. Joe and Vickie have the good fortune of an upcoming  “handyman visit” by their grandson… Erin and her daughters will vacation in Italy and Heidi will be acting treasurer at the October 3 meeting.

Here’s Pete’s CLYNK poem,

“If you keep your eyes on the night sky,
You might even see an asteroid going by,
If not, think CLYNK, Food Pantry and PB&J
Then, after that – ‘Make it a nice day!’” (Total is $1214.43)

I had the winning ticket for the second consecutive meeting. I drew the 10 of clubs and 3 of spades. Not today!

Rick thanked Tracy for her efforts on the Kite Festival. He called attention to the PB&J drive at Bangor Bank all this month and our club’s food pantry drive through September 30.

The District 7780 Recovery Conference is next Saturday, September 28, at Noble High School in North Berwick.

Committee chairs took the floor to remind members of the work of the club’s committees and to encourage participation. We heard from Elizabeth Cutler (Public Relations), Jim Anliot (Scholarships), Joe Boyle (Contributions), Tracy Smith (Events), Brenda Cressey (Rotary Foundation), Alice Pearce (both Service and Visioning), and Susan DeQuattro (Social.) Also, Dr. Joe noted that the membership committee needs a chairperson. Brenda noted she is serving as club secretary only through the end of June 2025. The club needs someone to step up to do the job in July. She and I will be happy to mentor that person. At the conclusion of this discussion, it was agreed that a summary of the mission of all committees should be distributed to all members.

Brenda highlighted the article in Rotary magazine about Rotary Peace Poles and World Polio Day on October 24.

The board met briefly after today’s meeting.

In closing, I would like to share a thought. As you know, I retired as club secretary last June. Writing meeting recaps is not the secretary’s job and I am continuing to do the recaps because I enjoy doing so. To streamline to job, I’ve begun recording portions of club meetings. I then write from those recordings. It would further simplify the job for me if anyone who speaks from notes written on a computer would email the notes to me for the recap.

Thank you,

Ed Seppa
