Things about which folks were either happy or sad included… Having no badge and arriving late, Connie was fined. Ed Seppa also was fined for no badge. Matt was pleased to welcome two guests – Erin Gott, Ogunquit harbormaster, and Larry Carlson, a member of the Chamber of Commerce board. Russ’s daughter’s house has been sheetrocked. In his own words, Richard “survived the visit by his two grandsons.” Dr. Joe’s Norwegian son Arne will soon visit with his two teenage children. Susan is hosting a young man from Mongolia, a relative of her daughter-in-law.  The fellow is here for a year, currently working at Jonathan’s. Ed Smith reports feeling better. He is proud to have served mass at St. Mary’s during a recent visit by the bishop. Tracy’s mom had a positive check-up at Dana Farber. 

Bob thanked Pete for taking care of Rotary Park in his absence. He and Cheryl vacationed in Alaska for their 50^th. On a truly sad note, Cheryl’s dad passed away at age 105. Pete reported that the Rotary Park flagpole requires new ropes. He glanced in the direction of Russ who, as fire chief, has ladder equipment at his disposal! Pete reliably reported on Clynk as follows,

In lieu of a Polio raffle prize, Erin donated $30 cash.

 

Erin Gott told of the problems of the aging Perkins Cove footbridge and the intrigue of managing the tight quarters of the harbor. Staff and volunteers painted the harbormaster building and the footbridge. (Ask about the 4-inch paint roller.) Federal monies will go toward a new footbridge that will have to be ADA accessibility compliant. That detail poses an interesting design challenge to the designers considering the landspace limitations of Perkins Cove. One interesting comment involved a Perkins Cove denizen who “can park wherever she wants!”

 

Tracy gave a brief report on the kite festival. Alice noted that the chamber is compiling a new volunteer list (hint, hint!) Erin handed out copies of the proposed 2022-23 budget. After an avalanche of questions from Elizabeth Ford (just kidding!), Russ moved to accept the budget and Bod seconded. The motion passed without objection.   

 

District Governor Claudia Frost will make her official visit to our club on October 20. Members are encouraged to wear red to call awareness to ending Polio. Erin will send out a sign up for the October 22 Ogunquitfest event.
