Joe’s Norwegian son, Tor, will visit on the 25th. Richard expressed thanks for the first-rate changeover event. Kerry and Susan were pleased by the return of sunshine. Ed Smith thinks we’ve had enough rain; his pond is full! Tracy narrowly avoided the covid infections her family shared by way of her brother’s 55th birthday party. Bob offered high praise for the improvements to Rotary Park and the work of harbormaster Erin Gott. Alice thanked Ogunquit’s police and fire departments for the fireworks. She plans to attend a Yankees-Cubs game this weekend. Melanie wishes Alice well as she begins her presidency. Pete reported $622.70 in the CLYNK account.

George took the stage to share memories of his Peace Corps assignment to Colombia in the 1960s. He noted that his roommate was returned to the states due to a tapeworm infection! George’s team in Colombia was assigned to construct a comodor, a dining area, for the local school. Likely out of humility, George did not mention that he possesses a commendation letter for his service signed by Sargent Shriver, the head of the Peace Corps at the time. (Younger members of our club may not know that Shriver was President John F. Kennedy’s brother-in-law.) About ten years ago, George received an email from Brianna Castro who at the time was a Peace Corps volunteer in Colombia. She was hoping that her email had reached Jorge Wilson who was still remembered by some of the villagers. Brianna’s reaching out to George in that email eventually resulted in Ogunquit Rotary’s 2015 grant project to provide a modern food preparation facility in that village.
Tracy reviewed preparations for the 2 Cent Sale (less than two weeks away.) Raffle tickets can be sold in front of Cricket’s Corner Beach & Toy. Set-up begins at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 19; lunch will be provided. Bring all donations, ticket money and gift baskets that day. Two or three computers will be needed. Please arrive between 4:30 and 5:00 on Thursday; doors will open at 6:00.
Alice thanked Melanie, Erin and John for their efforts producing the changeover event. Erin will be sending invoices for dues and meals. Jonathan’s has raised the meal price a modest amount from $21 to $23. Larry has agreed to handle the rsvp chore for our meetings. He also signed up to be our membership chair. A fireside chat for newer members is scheduled for Thursday, July 13, at 5:00 p.m. at The Dunaway Center. The board will meet afterward.
