Recap of Friday, December 18, 2020
A quite lively group assembled on Zoom last Friday in anticipation of Dr. Joe’s classification talk.  Leading off the happy dollars, Joe noted that his stepdaughter Stephanie, an ICE nurse, has received her first dose of the Corona virus vaccine and his step grandson graduated from college. “Happy Birthday” to Ed Smith who turned 85 on December 16.  Ed noted that he met his wife at a Rotary party 38 years ago. Having recently had a phone conversation, Ed conveyed warm greetings from Richard Littlefield. Pete urged us to celebrate the holidays with a beverage or two to boost the Clynk account; it seems to be stuck in the “deep-freeze” at $378.20.  Bob and Cheryl’s son Michael will soon complete his final studies and will be ordained as a Catholic priest in May. Melanie was thankful that, to date, no business staffers or friends have been affected by Covid.

Susan provided an update on board and club action. The 2 Cents Sale Raffle that concluded on Monday, December 14, generated approximately $3,700 in revenue, somewhat more than the original target. $200 was donated to Spirit of Giving. Nancy Lowenberg is serving as our liaison with June Messier at WOCAM regarding our Day of Warming in February.  The 75+ Covid-Calling committee is continuing it’s work. Alice added that the Chamber of Commerce sponsored a number of very successful Christmas by the Sea events including a well-received “Drive-thru with Santa” at Bangor Bank. Pete planned to assist the local Wreaths Across America event last Saturday in which wreaths were to be taken to three veterans’ cemeteries.

No note-taking and transcribing can do justice to Dr. Joe’s fascinating review of the major events in his life. He made clear that being a Rotarian has been a significantly formative influence for which he is very grateful. If you were not present for Joe’s talk, you might consider taking him to lunch once doing so is safe. I think he would be quite pleased to share the same thoughts with you at that time.

Because the first Friday of January is New Years Day, our January Zooms will be on the 8th and the 22nd.

I wish you a very Merry Christmas and an especially Happy New Year.

In Rotary,

Ed
