Our long-time friend, Past District Governor Elias Thomas visited today to tell us about “Those Dam Rotarians!”
Rick was away so Alice presided. Dr. Joe spoke about how grateful he is for all the support the club gives Rotary Foundation. We surpassed the 2024-25 giving goal by a sizeable margin.
In happy dollars, Dr. Joe reported that his Norwegian son Arne will visit soon. Nancy is delighted that her granddaughter is beginning to speak. Erin’s daughter is getting married. Bob expressed thanks to Carol Brennan for the superb coverage given Ogunquit Rotary in The Weekly Sentinel. Bob also expressed admiration for the courageous work of the Ogunquit lifeguards. Susan took her granddaughter school-shopping. Brenda and Dick recently celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary. Brenda praised Bob for his efforts in caring for Rotary Park. Jim’s daughter is expecting a second child in September. Tracy reminded us that the Capriccio Festival of Kites is Saturday, September 6 from 9 am to 2 pm. There are numerous ways that any of us can help, and it’s all a truly fun time.

Elias took the stage to talk about an important global grant he is working on with a partner in India. The Rotary Club of Sanford Springvale is teamed with the Rotary Club of Delhi Akash Megapolis on a global grant to construct dams in channels that remain when monsoon floods recede. (Hence the term Dam Rotarians!) Elias has worked on numerous projects of this type in addition to his many trips to provide polio vaccine to Indian children. Next month, our board will consider contributing to the latest dam project. Oh, the many ways that Rotary makes the world a better place.
